Education

We understand that education is a vital tool in our campaign for animal welfare. We educate verbally during our SteriVac campaigns, and  have targeted schools to teach children the importance of kindness to animals at an early age.

We will shortly be posting new educational information, so you can see for yourselves how we will be approaching the need for education.

In the meantime, please read the report below which explains the difficultly we face in demonstrating the true cost of responsible animal ownership.

Cruelty To Animals Act

Please download the below act which documents Botswana's animal cruelty law.

General Care

Please download the file below - a simple PDF flyer which we distribute when on our Outreach campaigns to help educate about the importance of basic animal care, such as providing food and shelter.

Donkey Hobbling

Hobbling livestock is a way of life in Maun - and a legal one at that. However, according to the Cruelty To Animals Act it is illegal to "cause any unnecessary suffering ... to any animal". This includes over-restrictive hobbling.

Hobbling a donkey too tightly can cause serious problems and long-term damage. A donkey which is too tightly hobbled can suffer from the following:

  • Deep cuts to the legs
  • Infection
  • Nerve damage
  • Muscle loss from lack of movement

Any donkey which suffers from the above will not be able to work for some time, even after the hobble has been removed.

Nylon rope shrinks as it ages, turning a humane hobble into around-the-clock agony. We're therefore suggesting a kinder and cheaper alternative.

Just follow our six simple steps to restrict how far your donkey roams, while knowing that he is healthy, happy and pain-free.
